Norfolk, meet Nor'easter. Nor'easter, Norfolk.

What's a Nor'easter, you ask? Well, I had to look it up myself. It's a type of storm along the East Coast and Atlantic Canada, so named because the winds come from the northeast. They cause flooding, high winds and sometimes snow, mostly in the winter months.

Here in Colonial Place, we're about to float away. Many of the streets are indistinguishable from the Lafayette River that we live along. Yesterday I was a dare-devil (read: naive) and drove through about 3 feet of water several times and finally chickened out (read: wised-up) when I came to a lake in the road with a car stranded in the middle of it with water up to the windows. Yeah... I'll go ahead and turn around here, please. Anyway, I made it to work but my knuckles were stark white from gripping the steering wheel so hard and you better believe I kept my hands at 10 and 2 the whole time! Today (Friday), I don't think there's any way I could make it out, so Rowen and I are hanging out at home.

Last weekend, we were total home bodies and it was wonderful! We threw a baby shower for friends I work with, Sarah and Lily, and I was in heaven! I LOVE party planning! My ideal job would actually be working as a doctor about 2 days per week, planning parties 2 days a week and staying home with my monster and gardening, decorating the house, and painting anything that will sit still for the rest of the time.

Here's what else we've been up to...

* We finally found 2 huge barrels to start rain water collecting (good timing, huh...thanks Nor'easter!) and composting. I'm really kind of flying blind here, but have gotten lots of helpful info from my up-the-street neighbor and online. I have no idea how this will turn out but its really pretty fun so far. If you live in Hampton Roads and are looking for a good price on barrels, look on Craig's list. That's where I found mine and The Barrel Guy even delivers! Here's Rowen painting the compost barrel.

Tada!

* Baby showering...so fun!
Here's the beginning of the cake; I filled these ridges with chocolate mouse :)
YUM!

* Decorating the house for Thanksgiving. Can't wait!
* We've reached a breakthrough with Rowen...he'll try to repeat words. Up until now he wasn't interested in saying words at all, but now he's willing to try! This is so much fun! He's been saying Mama and Daddy for a while and signing More, Please, Thank you, Yes, and I love you. He says animal sounds for dog, cat, pig, monkey, cow, and bear/lion/dinosaur/random roaring creatures. Here are his new words:
- Mail
- Book
- Bye-Bye
- Diiii (for Dinosaur)
- Ha (for Help)
- Ball
- Duck

He understands everything we say to him and he usually minds. For times he doesn't mind, we've decided to go with the 1-2-3 magic strategy and use the crib for time-out. I think its getting through to him so far.

He LOVES to dance and his favorite inspiration is the JK Wedding Entrance Dance. That child could watch it all day long!

* I started watching Saturday Night Live again. Pretty funny. Speaking of funny, I love Jack Donaghy. Alec Baldwin has got serious funny going on. If you're not watching 30 Rock, you're doing the wrong thing! I love politically charged, intellectual funny and 30 Rock owns it! (I also LOVE The Office, Parks and Rec and Community!)

Well, we're gonna venture outside and play in puddles. Hope everyone has a great weekend!
