Rowenisms

The other day Rowen and I were talking about germs and how they grow and are spread and he said, "Yeah like that Lewy McStewy book from Chick-Fil-A!"
Honk if your child has the Louis Pasteur book about determination (or something like it) from Chick-Fil-A!!

This is a total coincidence, but the next one involves a Chick-Fil-A book, too! Man, we're hooked...
Harper got a book this time, about Paddington. Rowen was "reading" it tonight and asked what the bear's name was and I said Paddington. Then he started singing "Paddington Paddington, Baker's Men..."

Funny kid.

Rowenisms

Tonight as I was putting Rowen to bed, I said "I love you so much." and he said, "Even when my wife takes me to her house, I will still think of you. And even Daddy and Harpsie and Lady."

Precious!

Rowenisms

Tonight I was telling Rowen my usual litany of "how much I love you's" and I said finally, "I love you so much I can't stand it!" and he said (very sincerely) "I can't stand it either."

A few weeks ago, Rowen was greeting our friend Ashley in Charlottesville. They exchanged pleasantries and Ashley asked Rowen how much he loved his little sister. And he said, "I love her as much as Jesus loves you!"

Rowenisms

I was rubbing Rowen's belly as part of his extensive bedtime routine and we were chatting about different items in his room. He asked who gave him his blue lamp. He said,

"Was it a birthday gift or was it just junk?"

I told him it was just an everyday gift because he needed a lamp so mama and daddy bought one for him. And I asked him "What's junk?" And he said,

"That's just stuff grown-ups use."

The insight of a 4 year old!

Rowenisms

Rowen and I were getting Harps up from her nap today (and I was changing her poopy diaper) and he told me this:

"When I get to be a daddy, I can change Harper's poopy diaper. Or maybe when I'm 11 or 12."

And I'm thinking, why wait?

Then, he said,

"Ya know, when I grow up to be a daddy and have 4 children, I'm gonna get the biggest rocking chair so we can sit and read books!" (Then he demonstrated how big with his arms).

And he surprised me with,

"I'm gonna be grown up to a daddy in a week in a half!"

Then, to add emphasis,

"Can you believe that? A WEEK IN A HALF!"

Sunday afternoon Rowenisms

We had our neighbors over today for a meet and greet of sorts. It was a great time and we're blessed to have some really nice folks around us. After the party, as Rowen was gobbling up some of Miss Beth's oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, he said,

"It was the worst party ever but I still had fun with it."

And I said, "what do you mean...worst?"

And he said, "Worst means boring but I still had fun."

Nothing like a 4 year old to keep you humble :)

Notables and Quotables

Every night, I rock Harper to sleep. Its such a precious time with this sweet girl. She's usually so busy and always on the go, so it's really great to hold her and just soak her in while she drifts off to sleep. Ever since she was born, we've had a special routine. As she drifts off, she usually has her little hand up in the air, maybe trying to hold onto the little wakefulness she has left, then that precious little hand wanders over to my face and settles on my eye. As I close my eyes and she feels the tickle of my eyelashes on her hand, she laughs in her sleep! Same thing happens when I kiss the palm of her little hand! Its so snuggly! Then, I'll kiss her, right on the edge of her lips, mostly on her cheek and she laughs again! And sometimes (still in her sleep), she whispers "Dadadada."

Tonight as Rob was getting Row ready for bed, he made some comment about Rowen needing to get his clothes off and pj's on and Rowen says,

"And, your point is...?"

We were both floored! We had to laugh! He had a huge smile on his face so we know he was being innocent. Then a couple minutes later while brushing his teeth, Rob said something else and with a toothy grin, Rowen said,

"So, what's your point?"

LOVE them :)

Breakfast table banter

Rowen and I were having breakfast this morning and he was sitting on his feet bouncing in the chair. Here's our conversation.

Me: Rowen, please sit on your bottom. You may fall if you bounce and I would be sad and cry if you were hurt.

Rowen: Then your eyes would cry and your nose would get a bunch of boogers.

Me: Yeah, I guess so.

Rowen: Then you would need to blow your nose, mama.

Rowenisms

Rowen: I wanna go to a party college.

Us: Oh really? What kind of party college?

Rowen: A birthday party college!

Where does he get this stuff? :)

Rowenisms

Tonight, like every night, I passed Rowen's room to notice that he was still awake a good hour after "bedtime". We don't mind this at all really; we just enjoy hearing him talk to himself and sing and lull himself to sleep. I popped back in his room tonight, just to tell him he's wonderful (again) and that I love him.

And he said, "I love you, too. All the way to the sky and back. Like Jesus."

Perfect.
